Building at IIT Hyderabad: Lambda, IoT & Late Night Dev

CollegeIoTLeadership

I realized the true potential of technology at IITH. I became actively involved in several technological clubs and contributed to a variety of projects.

IoT Projects

I worked hands-on with Arduino, microcontrollers, and various sensors. This phase exposed me to a diverse range of hardware and software integration challenges:

  • A gesture-controlled car
  • AI-powered gesture recognition system utilizing motion sensors, capturing and analyzing data from a Google Wear OS wristwatch in real-time
  • IoT-based fall detection using a NodeMCU, MPU6050 sensor, Flutter, and WebSockets

Lambda Leadership

As I reached the end of my second year, I got promoted to overall head of Lambda, the software club of IIT Hyderabad. This position allowed me to mentor students, organize workshops, and lead technical initiatives.

One of our most impactful projects was a cab-sharing portal for the campus, which quickly attracted over 10,000 sign-ups and hundreds of active monthly users. The platform helped students coordinate rides, reduce transportation costs, and build a sense of community.

  • Community impact: 10,000+ signups showed the power of solving real campus problems
  • Leadership lessons: Managing a team of developers while maintaining code quality
  • Technical growth: Hands-on experience with IoT, full-stack development, and DevOps

The late-night dev sessions, the debugging marathons, and the satisfaction of seeing students use what we built - these experiences at IIT Hyderabad shaped me into the engineer I am today.
